Siding Replacement in London, Ontario
New siding, new house wrap, and properly flashed windows and doors, for full re-sides and the upper storeys of brick homes.
Many London homes are brick on the main floor with siding on the upper storey, gables, or additions, so a lot of our siding work is replacing just those sections and matching them to the brick. We also do full re-sides on frame houses and handle the soffit and fascia around them so the finished exterior is seamless.
Choosing a siding material
Vinyl and insulated vinyl
The most economical option and close to maintenance-free. Choose a thicker premium panel for straighter walls and better impact resistance, or insulated vinyl, which bonds a foam backing to each panel and adds a modest R-value. Dark vinyl colours need a product rated for heat on sunny walls.
James Hardie fibre cement
Heavier, more expensive, and closer to painted wood in appearance. Hardie's HZ5 line is engineered for freezing, wet climates like ours, is non-combustible, and carries a 30-year non-prorated product warranty. It does need repainting eventually and rewards careful installation. Compare it in James Hardie vs. vinyl siding.
Engineered wood
A real wood look with better dimensional stability than cedar, at a price between vinyl and fibre cement. Expect to repaint over its life. Our siding materials guide compares all six common options side by side.
What a good siding job includes
- Removal of the old siding and an inspection of the sheathing, with any rot shown to you and repaired at a pre-agreed unit price
- New house wrap, taped at the seams, plus membrane flashing at every window and door
- Sealing of every penetration: hose bibs, vents, electrical, and light fixtures
- Correct clearances above grade and roofing, and expansion gaps for vinyl
- Trim, soffit, and fascia finished to match, and a full cleanup including a magnet sweep for nails

Insulate while the wall is open
A siding project is the cheapest moment in 30 years to add insulation to your walls. Insulated vinyl or a continuous layer of rigid foam under any siding reduces heat loss through the studs. Read does new siding improve insulation?
Heritage districts
If your home is in one of London's heritage conservation districts, changing exterior cladding on a street-facing elevation may need a Heritage Alteration Permit. Check with the City of London's heritage planning office before choosing a material.
Is it time?
Warping, cracked or loose panels, fading on the sunny walls, soft spots underneath, or paint peeling on the inside of exterior walls are all signs. Our signs it's time to replace your siding guide explains what each means, and siding colour trends helps with the hardest decision.
Siding questions
How much does siding replacement cost in London, Ontario?
Published 2026 Ontario guides put vinyl siding at roughly $6 to $12 per square foot installed, insulated vinyl at $8 to $14, and James Hardie fibre cement at $12 to $22. Removal of the old siding, sheathing repairs, trim, soffit, and fascia affect the total. We measure the walls and itemize the quote.
Which siding holds up best to London winters?
All three common choices work here when installed properly. Vinyl handles moisture perfectly but gets brittle in deep cold and can crack on impact. Fibre cement does not expand, contract, or get brittle with temperature and resists hail, but every cut edge and joint must be sealed. Engineered wood gives a natural look and needs periodic repainting.
How long does a siding project take?
Typical siding projects take three to five days depending on the size of the home and the amount of trim work. Rain days and any rot found under the old siding can add time; we confirm the schedule in your written quote.
Will new siding make my house warmer?
Siding itself adds very little insulation. The comfort gain comes from what goes underneath: new taped house wrap, sealed penetrations, and, if you choose it, insulated vinyl or a layer of rigid foam. Exterior insulation can also qualify for rebates under Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program when bundled with an energy assessment.
