The GTA's housing ranges from Victorian row houses to 2010s subdivisions, and the right window, door, or siding approach depends on the house in front of us.
Toronto and Etobicoke
Older Toronto neighbourhoods have a lot of brick homes with original or decades-old wood windows. Toronto has 27 heritage conservation districts, including Cabbagetown, Riverdale, and parts of the Beaches, where street-facing window replacements generally need a heritage permit and a design that keeps the original character. Our century home windows guide covers how that works. Etobicoke's postwar bungalows and split-levels often have aluminum or early vinyl sliders that are due for full-frame replacement.
Mississauga, Brampton, and Milton
Much of the housing here was built from the 1970s onward, and many original builder-grade windows and sliding patio doors are now at the end of their life: fogged sealed units, dragging sashes, and patio doors that ice up in their tracks. Basement apartments are common, which makes code-compliant egress windows a frequent request.
Oakville, Burlington, and Hamilton
Lakeshore exposure means more wind and driven rain on some elevations, which favours casement windows on the weather side and fibreglass doors where there's little overhang. Larger homes here often include bay, bow, or oversized picture windows; see our bay and bow window guide.
Typical GTA pricing
Published 2026 Ontario pricing guides put the Toronto area roughly 10 to 20 percent above southwestern Ontario for comparable work, because labour, parking, and access cost more. For a standard vinyl replacement window, expect roughly $600 to $1,200 installed in the GTA; a steel entry door from about $1,200 and a fibreglass door from about $2,000. Do I need a permit to replace windows in Toronto?
A same-size replacement generally does not need a building permit. Enlarging an opening or cutting a new basement egress window does, and properties in a Toronto heritage conservation district usually need a heritage permit for changes visible from the street.
How long does a GTA project take?
Windows are typically installed in one to two days, a door in a day, and siding in three to five days. Manufacturing lead time for made-to-order windows and doors comes first; we give you the current lead time with your quote.
