A London company, not a franchise.

Wide View Contracting is based in London, Ontario. When you call 519-630-3820, you reach the owners, Waldemar and Margaret, not a call centre. We price every project ourselves after a free in-home visit, and our own crews do the installation. There's no showroom to visit: we come to you.

London Homes

What London homes usually need.

London's housing stock spans more than a century, and the right approach depends a lot on when your house was built.

Century homes in the older neighbourhoods

The brick Victorians, Edwardians, and cottages in Old North, Wortley Village, Woodfield, and Old East Village often still have original or early-replacement wood windows. Several of these areas are part of London's heritage conservation districts, where replacing street-facing windows usually needs a Heritage Alteration Permit and a window that matches the original style and proportions. Our century home windows guide covers the permit rules and the details that make a new window look right on an old house.

Postwar and 1970s–80s houses

Bungalows, side-splits, and two-storeys from this era commonly have aluminum or first-generation vinyl sliders that were installed without proper flashing. These are the homes where a full-frame replacement often makes more sense than an insert, and where adding a basement egress window is common when a basement is being finished.

Newer subdivisions

Homes built from the 1990s onward are now reaching the age where builder-grade windows start to fail: fogged sealed units, sliders that drag, and patio doors that ice up in their tracks. Many of these can be upgraded opening by opening, starting with the worst-performing walls.

Questions

London questions

Do you have a showroom in London?

No. We are a service-area business without a storefront. The consultation happens at your home, where we measure every opening, check the existing frames, and bring product samples so you see them in your own light.

How soon can you come out for a quote in London?

London is our home base, so consultations here are usually the easiest to schedule. After the visit we send a detailed written quote within 24 to 48 hours.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in London?

Replacing a window with one of the same size in the same opening generally does not need a City of London building permit. Enlarging an opening, cutting a new basement egress window, or changing a door opening does. Homes in one of London’s heritage conservation districts may also need a Heritage Alteration Permit for street-facing windows and doors.

Can I get a rebate on new windows or doors in London?

London homeowners can use Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program, which pays $100 per rough opening for ENERGY STAR certified windows and exterior doors when they are part of a bundle with a home energy assessment and another qualifying upgrade. Book the assessment before any work starts.
